One day

One day
I'll stop waking up with the thought
That this morning
Will be the morning
My girl will wake up with
No more challenges.
She'll just be a boring, vanilla
Little kid.

One day
I'll let go of that hope
That just holds me back

One day
I'll just realize that she's a miracle
And that will be enough

One day...

We've been applying for services and updating my sweetie's IEP today. So, yeah, this one's sorta based on a true story.

  2. I like this piece. I like the rhythm, and also and in common with all of your work it displays your depth of feeling, and your covertly defiant spirit.
    Have a great week.
By the way. what's an IEP?

    1. Hi Sleepshort! I apologize that it has taken so long to reply. My computer had a terrible virus and was dropped, so it's been being repaired and my internet has also been broken. Once I get all of my comments returned I am coming to your blog for a visit. I am happy that you liked my poem. My daughter has Epilepsy and developmental delays, which makes her eligible for supportive services at school. The IEP is the Individualized Education Plan. We decide what services she'll receive, like Speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, and what her educational goals will be for the year. She has learning delays as well and is in a classroom with children who have learning delays and disabilities.I still haven't totally adjusted to it, which is what this poem is about. I spoke with some of my friends who have older children with similar challenges and I'm not sure that this hope ever goes away.

  3. One day is today. You're already there, Heidi. You're doing it, living it. There is tension in your write that is felt.

    1. Hi Eusebia! Tension? I like that. I need to reread it with tension in mind.

  4. This is nice. It's like that saying, "Stop wishing for what you don't have and be thankful for what you have." Or something like that. Who wants boring vanilla? It's like cutsey pink. Yuck.

    1. Hi Yvonne! Thank you for the visit! I was hoping to convey ambivalence, which it seems like I did. I'm glad that you liked it.

Hi! Thank you for the visit! Grab a plate and a sweet tea and let's dig in. It may take a while, but I always try to reply and return visits.
