February 19, 1999

February 19, 1999

I don't know all the names he was called,
but I can imagine:
son
brother
uncle
friend.

What I know about his death is from
what I've read
what I've seen on tv.
Things
I won't
write
here.

So today, the anniversary of when
he died. I say a
prayer for him,
and his friends
and his family,
and for those who killed him.

And I pray for a better world
full of love
for all of us.

Today marks a sad day in Alabama history.  I don't really have anything else to say except please check out the link above about him.

  1. What a beautiful poem for someone who left too early, too tragically. I too hope for a better world.

    1. Thank you Susie. I get really anxious writing about real people (who aren't my children). His story in important, though and I just hope I did him justice.

And thank you for the follow...i'm approaching double digits!

  2. I hope one day we can look back and say "Look how far we've come" and to an extend - we can - but not even close to where we should be standing.

    Thank-you for sharing this.

  7. touching poem, excellent tribute piece. The not getting into details here is a great example of so much said without really stating the details themselves. Very nicely done. Thanks

    1. Hi Fred, thanks for reading and commenting. I am very glad that you liked it. I was worried...it is easy for me to overdo and get melodramatic (and not in the fun way). Thank you for the kind words.

Hi! Thank you for the visit! Grab a plate and a sweet tea and let's dig in. It may take a while, but I always try to reply and return visits.
