Asshat

drawing by heidi helmer

"I want to tell you
   one
       more
            thing
                  I
                  know
about the Negro,"

Said the wizened old white supremacy hero
While dancing to sedition's  deniro
Complaining about welfare to the news joe
While never paying what he does owe
Spewing racism like a schmo
As a human being he's a straight-up zero
In the end we reap what we sow.

written 4/24/14 for dVerse

In his post, Bjorn teaches us about  Dagsvers and encourages us to write about a current event without metaphor or softening the edges, and maybe add a little picture.

Yep.

So this is what I wrote. You may have heard of this guy, or maybe you recognize him in my fine drawing.

And I am completely terrified to post this.

Like y'all didn't know my politics were a little  left of the middle anyway.

And just yesterday, someone complimented me about how non-judgemental I was. :)

but seriously, this guy is an asshat

(I'm going to go try to write a poem using anaphora for NaPoWriMo now.)

    1. Hey Claudia! Thank you. Mostly I am afraid of getting even angrier. It takes me a while to cool off. I appreciate the support and encouragement.

  2. I don't blame you for being frightened about posting this. Many of your southern neighbors don't share your progressive perspective and I could see how something like this might cause problems for you. But I'm glad you wrote what many of us were already thinking. You're my hero!

    1. Hey Barry! My husband likes to antagonize me into a "what the fucking hell?" frenzy. I think it may be one of the main reasons he married me. I would rather not be so pissed off. I think it's the people who want to make this guy a hero that set me off. The complete hypocrisy. Ahh! I'm working myself into a rant now. I'll stop while I'm ahead. Thanks for the visit and for the very kind and welcome comment.

    1. I have to admit that I cheated on the drawing. It's not one of my strengths, so I goodsearched him and then held up a piece of paper to my computer screen and traced an outline and filled in the shadows. (I'm run-on sentence woman right now.) The butt face and the poop word bubble were all free hand though. I'm quite impressed with it.

  4. good for you to state what you believe, and that guy needs to pay his bills.

From what I have seen over the years, the welfare stare is psychologically addicting - and as close to institutional slavery as it gets. Alot of people make alot of money from
    the status quo.

    1. Hi! Thank you for the visit. He does need to pay his bills and stop inciting treason and generally being a racist asshat.

I think you have a point about the welfare state in how it relates to corporate welfare. I think that many corporations are way too dependent. Walmart could definitely take a cut. I don't know about it being institutional slavery, though. Mainly I think slavery is as close to slavery as it gets.

  5. Oh first I love your drawing... Secondly I'm happy not having to listening to a guy like that in our news, and thirdly .. Being scared to talk is the worst part of it... Great piece,

    1. Hi Bjorn! Thank you! I had help with the drawing, I traced part of it. I think life is better not having to listen to guys like this (or listen to the people who sing his praises). Mostly, I'm scared of my temper. It's mostly in check, though.

  9. I love it, and think it gets quite rappy. It almost begs to be spoken aloud. I'm too far away from the niceties of your politics to be able to recognise the person - and wouldn't want to know him anyway - but I like the drawing too.

    1. Ah, as Claudia said, you weren't the only one writing and posting about this personage. I've seen a photo and all. So now I know who, and appreciate your artistry with words and image all the more.

  12. No idea who this is about, but I did read a quote the other day that would fit quite well.

    Ready?

"Is it difficult wearing your ass on your head, Asshat?"

    1. Hey Bone! It's about Cliven Bundy. I'm not a fan. I am, however, now a fan of that quote. :)

Hi! Thank you for the visit! Grab a plate and a sweet tea and let's dig in. It may take a while, but I always try to reply and return visits.
