NaPoWriMo Day Five: Ignoring Peace

mourning the time spent
berating myself for not being THE
perfect (fill in the blank) that day.

pissed for letting my life slip away

acknowledging and ignoring the fact- staring
me in the face- that I am walking through

the same asshole steps of yesterday's
beat-me-up march...afraid of the window

that is before my eyes
leading me to a peace not yet closed.

I'm late tonight because today is my sweet girl's birthday and we have spent the day at the lake. Happy birthday my sweet Aoife <3 !

Today's prompt was to write a poem in the style of The Golden Shovel by Terrance Hayes. You take a poem (he used Stevie Smith's most awesome We Real Cool) and use the words of that poem as the last word of each line of your poem.  Since all of my favorite poets are the bloggers I read, I knew immediately that I wanted to use a poem by Eusebeia Philos (although I didn't ask his permission and I hope he doesn't get pissed at me because I kind of like what I came up with...). If you are neither reading his blog nor following him on Twitter, then I feel kind of sad for you because his work is masterful.  Click on his name to read his poem, Yesterday's Window, which is the poem I used, and then hang out to read some more of his work. He is very aware of the wonder in every day.

  1. a peace we have yet to find, you know...
perfection is an illusion anyway, though
often the standard we hold ourselves to
    more than others...nice piece

    1. Thanks! I think you're right, Brian. I wouldn't want to be around someone who held me to the same standards I do.

Eusebia has been writing some very cool short form/micropoetry on Twitter. @Eusebeia_Philos

  2. Your poem melds seamlessly with Eusebia's. Sometimes it is good to let life slip and slide about...see where it takes you !

  3. Hey, Heidi. Love it! You filled in details that my twitter shorty couldn't fit in...a personal touch, I see. Very good...like what you did.

Thanks for the nice endorsement...and, yes, always feel free to use or comment on any of my poems.

    1. Thank you for the awesome inspiration! I am so happy that you like it. (I just realized that I keep forgetting the third "e" in your name. I think I have fixed that.)

    1. Thank you Mary! They are such mean steps. My Aoife says thank you too!

  5. I very much identity with the message in your poem. I agree with the others that this poem blends in seamlessly with Eusebeia's original themes.

    1. Thank you Barry! I'm kind of torn between feeling glad that I'm not alone with these feelings and sad that anyone ever feels them.

Hi! Thank you for the visit! Grab a plate and a sweet tea and let's dig in. It may take a while, but I always try to reply and return visits.
