When I was young
I believed whatever
I was told
Reagan was a good president
and wanted what was best for me
If I just worked hard
I could have and be whatever I wanted
Everyone was equal
If you didn't succeed, then it was your fault
I had no reason to feel bad
I was just lazy
When I was perfect
Then I would be good enough.
Now that I am a grown-up person
I understand privilege and oppression.
I understand depression.
I almost believe that I am good enough
In all of my imperfection.

Today's challenge is to write a palinode. We are supposed to retract a statement from an earlier poem. (What?! My Precious?) Instead, I took a little license and retracted some of the misconceptions from when I was younger. I think that this one is still incomplete.

I disagree, I think it's perfect and well-written. Excellent.
